Beating the Post-Holiday Slump!

mass interview

After the lor hei has been tossed, the ang bao money counted and the marathon mahjong sessions done, what’s next is the inevitable – going back to work. Getting a dose of the post-holiday blues is natural, but that doesn’t mean it should get you down.

We’ve got some simple (but truly awesome) tips to get you energised and back into the swing of things, faster than your favourite aunty can say, “When you getting married ah?

1) Monday blues? What Monday blues?

Psyche yourself up with some good news on Monday morning – it’s a holiday! That’s right, your first week back from the holidays is a short one. Keep this in mind and begin your week on a positive note, and you’ll be surprised at how much more energy you’ll have when you step into the office on Tuesday morning.

Only 4 days to the weekend!

2) Get a head start!

If you’re a go-getter, here’s a piece of advice that will make your first day back in the office a brilliant (and highly motivating) one. Reach the office an hour before everyone else gets there.

Here’s why.

After a holiday break, your inbox will likely be filled and your desk may be stacked with files and requests. During regular office hours – once the phone starts ringing, colleagues begin replying emails and meetings/chats start getting in the way – clearing the “holiday emails” can take half a day or more. By that time, you may be feeling tired and unproductive.

Without the usual distractions, you’ll be amazed at how quickly you can get things done and sorted. In fact, you may even clear all those nagging “pending” items before everyone gets into the office and starts furiously chugging away.

With your inbox looking neat and tidy again, you can now reward yourself with an ice-cold Peppermint Mocha Frappe. (Or whatever else gets you in a good mood.)

3) Ease into the week (and know that your colleagues are doing the same)

You probably have some interesting Chinese New Year stories to share, so why not take this opportunity to chat with your colleagues and get to know them even better?

Some of the funniest and most entertaining tales come from our holiday fun – and the office is the perfect place to share those memories while easing back into the pace of work.

Keep these 3 simple tips in mind and you’ll be on your way to having your best (and most enjoyable) post-holiday week ever!
